Administrative:
1. Programs: the program will be the ONLY form of notification as to performance dates & times. Programs cost $8.50 – to be included with entries. Programs are mailed three weeks prior to commencement of challenge.
1a. Please ensure you order a program as Dance Attack staff will not, under any circumstances, either before or after the programs have been posted, give out sessions & times to individuals over the phone.
1b. If you have not received your program by 10th September please ring (02) 43 58 15 28.
2. Dance Attack Challenge & the hosting facility will not be responsible for loss of property or injury to any persons at the event.
3. Dance Attack Challenge will not collect lost property.
4. Adjudicators: to be appointed.
5. Any solo entry forms that DO NOT SPECIFY category: “Specially restricted, Restricted or Open” will automatically be entered in “OPEN”. NO changes will be made to the program once program has been printed. The only changes that will be made after program is printed are if it is the error of Dance Attack staff.
6. Strictly NO REFUNDS will be given after entries have been received due to dancers being unable to attend the eisteddfod, for any reason whatsoever. Refunds will be given only if the circumstance arises where there is not enough entries to run a certain section.
Solos:
Improvisations:
7. Judges choose music for all improvisation sections.
7a. Improvisation contestants must wear plain colours - & dance/practice wear style clothing: leotard, unitard, crop top or tank top, wrap skirt, shorts, or bootleg pants. No “dance costumes” allowed in improvisation sections & studio name or logo must not be visible on any part of the competitor's attire.
7b. Solo contestants may dance up an age group, but not down. Entrants may enter more than one age group for improvisations, provided this rule is followed.
7c. All Improvisation, Duo/Trio & Troupe sections are OPEN sections.
Sections/category definitions:
8. Age of competition will be taken from the 21st September 2012.
9. Dance Attack reserves the right to delete, combine or split sections as necessary.
10. Dance Attack staff shall decide on any matter not covered by these rules, & any decision in any question or dispute shall be final.
11. Dance Attack reserves the right to add late entries at any point during the administrative period or during the events proceedings.
12. Performers must enter in their correct standard category as of when their entries are sent. E.g. If a performers is a Specially Restricted standard on the day that their entries are sent but they go on to win in a section after their entries are sent but before they compete at Dance Attack, thus changing their standard category, the performer is still permitted to perform in the category that they were originally entered in.
12a. Specially Restricted sections are limited to competitors who have NEVER gained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in that category at ANY age in any competition.
(EG: Sarah is 14yr & has placed 2nd in a jazz solo at a comp. in 12yr/under – she must dance in Restricted for her jazz solo 14/u, but Sarah, having never placed in a modern section, can enter specially restricted 14/u with her modern solo)
12b. Restricted sections are limited to competitors who have gained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in Specially Restricted at ANY age in any competition but have not won a 1st place in Restricted, at any age in any competition.
12c. Open sections are for dancers who have won 1st place in a Restricted section at any age, in any competition.
12d. Any entry forms that DO NOT SPECIFY category: “Specially restricted, Restricted or Open” will automatically be entered in “OPEN. NO changes will be made to the program once program has been printed. The only changes that will be made after program is printed are if it is the error of Dance Attack staff.
13. Song & Dance backing music must be devoid of any lead vocals in the song section (Whenever competitor/s are singing) – but vocals are permitted on the backing track during the dance section. A limited amount of backing vocals and harmonizing backing vocals are permitted.
13a. Song & Dance is as it states: it must comprise of singing & dancing, not just one or the other.
13b. Vocal Sections are for singing only. No dancing. Performers may be accompanied by a backing track (devoid of lead vocals) or may accompany themselves using a musical instrument supplied by the performer. A piano may or may not be available at the event for vocal soloists, however condition and tuning are not guaranteed. Performers intending to use the piano are strongly encouraged to bring a back-up CD of their backing track in case the piano is unavailable.
14. Acting Monologues-a dramatic monologue is a speech from a play or poem performed in character. All monologues must be performed from memory. Edits to the original text are permitted. A copy of the monologue including the authors name and name of original text (i.e. play or poem) must be provided to the sound desk prior to the commencement of the section. Chairs to be used as props are available. No scenes or sets are permitted. No sound effects or backing music are permitted. Entrants are encouraged to dress either in costume representing their character or plain black clothing.
15. Props are to be removed as soon as possible. No props are to be left in the auditorium.
*If any competitor’s prop is obstructing the stage or backstage area/s, walkways etc, Dance attack staff reserve the right to move the prop without permission of the owner, if the owner of the prop cannot be found at the time.
16. No repeating allowed in any age group, except in championship sections as the championship special rules state, as well as in BOYS only section (see below).
16a. An entrant may repeat a dance for the purpose of performing in the BOYS ONLY section.
17. Student Choreography must be strictly the original work & choreography of the competitor & their partners in the case of Duos/trios. Categories include Classical Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Song & Dance, Musical Theatre, Musical Comedy, Lyrical, Contemporary & Acrobatics. These sections may be combined depending on entries, however please specify the style of your dance on your entry form so we can divide them if there are sufficient entries.
Time limits:
18. *SOLOS: 3 MINUTES *DUOS/TRIOS: 4 MINUTES *TROUPES: 6 MINUTES
Troupes:
19. Age of competition will be taken from the 21st September 2012.

22. Troupes must contain a minimum of 4 competitors. Age of troupe is taken by the AVERAGE AGE of all members in the troupe. This is obtained by calculating the total by adding the age of EVERY competitor as at 21st September 2012, then dividing this number by the number of members in the troupe. Drop the decimal point.
23. All teachers with troupes entered will receive notification as soon as possible – prior to program being printed, by way of email if it is provided clearly.
24. Song & Dance backing music must be devoid of any lead vocals in the song section (Whenever competitor/s are singing) – but vocals are permitted on the backing track during the dance section. A limited amount of backing vocals and harmonizing backing vocals are permitted.

Conduct:
25. Good sportsmanship is expected to be displayed at all times by all teachers, performers, observers & parents
25a. Failure to display decorum will result in disqualification, as we are promoting a healthy dance atmosphere in the spirit of good will. Failure to do so may also result in exclusion from all Dance Attack Challenge events in the future.
26. If a performer or representative of a performer wishes to lodge a compliant about any part of the event, be it administrative, adjudication, event management, or any other aspect of the Dance Attack Challenge this will be only accepted in writing within 48hours of the event occurring.
27. The awarding of places, trophies, ribbons, scholarships etc is the adjudicator’s decision and is final.
28. The adjudicator’s decision is final.
29. Smoking at any time in the facilities is not permitted. If a dancer, parent, teacher, or spectator is found smoking in any part of the venue the dancer associated with this person will be disqualified.
30. No competitor is permitted to wear tap shoes in the foyer or inside the venue.
Music:
31. It should be noted that contestants are required to record their own music on an individual CD. The contestant’s music recording must be clearly labeled with dancer's name, section number & entry number, also stating ON or OFF stage start, & whether or not there is a TAG, or it will not be accepted.
31a. There is to be only one song per CD.
31b. All music must be the 1st track on CD. For emergency purposes it is advisable to have a duplicate copy available.
31c. Bring back-up CD’s.
31d. The Dance Attack Challenge does not have cassette tape facilities. The Sound Desk can not accept cassette tapes.
31e. Music must be handed in one section prior to performing, when called.
31f. It is advised that all CDs be of good quality and not worn or scratched-No responsibility will be taken for CDs skipping. No responsibility will be taken for any errors in the performance of recorded music.
31g. If a performer or representative of the performer detects an error in the music whilst the performer is on stage please advise the sound desk immediately so that the error can be rectified. The comfort and performance of every competitor is of utmost concern to The Dance Attack Challenge. Please understand that the sound desk operators do not know your music or routine so they are unable to detect playing errors, however they are willing to assist you if any problems occur.
31h. In dealing with the sound desk operators please remain calm and respectful at all times. We will do everything we can to help you.
Photo & video photography:
32. NO VIDEO CAMERAS OR CAMERAS ALLOWED IN AUDITORIUM AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON. If anyone is found to be recording a performance, Dance Attack reserves the right to disqualify the act being recorded and will automatically deduct 5 points, with or without notifying the teacher. Teachers, please inform all parents of this, as all acts on stage are protected by copyright & we are bind by this rule to comply with the code of conduct.
32a. Professional still photographers hired by Dance Attack for the competition reserve the right to be in attendance or not at anytime, reserving the right to choose which acts are photographed.
33. All contestants grant their permission to appear in newspapers or other promotional material for Dance Attack Challenge.
Judging:
34. The result in judging shall be final, no teacher, student, parent, or observer may question our judges or staff concerning the results of any part of the competition.
35. All performances will be timed by one of our staff members, the stop watch will be started from either the first movement on stage or first note of music, whichever comes first & will be stopped at the conclusion of each performance.
36. Every second overtime will result in a one point deduction, more than 20 seconds overtime will result in automatic disqualification. This rule can be overturned at any time by the adjudicators.
37. All competitors must be ready to perform as stated in the program at the correct times. You may be disqualified if not backstage ready to perform, unless permission is granted by stage manager for costume changes.
38. In the case of discrepancy in score sheets, only the Studio Director will be permitted to approach dance attack challenge staff if a protest or problem shall arise. See rule 26.
39. Any act that is not completed will be able to be repeated at the end of the section for judges' comments only.
40. Coaching or prompting from the wings or within the auditorium will not be permitted for age groups 7yrs & over. If anyone found to be prompting dancers the act concerned will be immediately disqualified.
41. The awarding of places and trophies in each section is at the Judges discretion.
